Tonia Cowan lives and works in uptown Manhattan

Tonia Cowan is an exhibiting painter and award-winning visual journalist.

She is the director of graphics for the Wall Street Journal and has formerly worked for Newsweek, The Associated Press and The Boston Globe. Cowan specializes in visual communication, working as a painter, photographer, graphics reporter and doodler of random things.

Her projects have included Olympics coverage, science reporting, covering one of Canada’s most infamous murder trials as a court illustrator and reporting from the North Pole with ball point pen drawings.

Tonia currently lives in Washington Heights, where she takes daily photos tagged #Goodnight #NewYork. The series began when New York was the epicenter of the COVID epidemic. You can follow along here.
